Occupy Philly a godsend to the homeless
Occupy Philadelphia has gone above and beyond the call of duty where the homeless are concerned. Doing more to help the homeless in Philadelphia then the city budget allocations have aloud the city to do recent history. In the past 13 days since they have been in occupation of City Hall Occupy Philly Has clothed, fed, provided shelter, social interaction, purpose, life skills training and dignity.
“Easily 150 cases of food come through here each week, to feed over a thousand homeless and occupiers every meal, three times a day”. says one person within the meal committee.
“ The people at Occupy Philly have taught me various skills from communications skills and conflict resolution to culinary skills and volunteerism, over all it’s a great experience,I feel like I have self respect” say Paul Green a homeless Philadelphia man.
So far they’ve been able to house an average of 1400 plus homeless persons that otherwise would have been on the street, or in a crumbling shelter system that is slowly closing down due budget constraints the city refuses to do anything about.
They’ve been able to cloth and feed who everyone who has come for that, “we aren’t turning away anyone,” said a comfort volunteer. “They’ve been a godsend for the homeless of this community,” a volunteer with Occupy Philadelphia said Monday.
They’ve been able to do this all and protest in a very peaceful fashion,
requiring next to no assistance from the police that maintain a presence there at city hall. Due to the diligent work of the safety and other volunteer working groups. Yet the city still insist on doing things in their same old inefective bureaucratic fashion.
